Chess.com Game Review is useful for finding mistakes, but **a suggested continuation is more useful evidence than a badge or a single percentage**. Check a surprising verdict on the board. Chess.com itself says its quick game-over analysis and full Game Review can produce different classifications because they use different analysis ([official explanation](https://support.chess.com/en/articles/11845102-why-did-my-move-classification-change-in-game-review), checked October 31, 2026).

That is different from proving a measured error rate. We have not benchmarked Chess.com's review against a fixed reference analysis, so this page does not claim that it gets a particular percentage of positions right. It explains what to inspect when a verdict seems wrong.

| Review output | A useful question |
|---|---|
| Evaluation | Which side is better, and what line supports that? |
| Best-move arrow | What happens after the opponent's best reply? |
| Move label | What opportunity did the move give away? |
| Accuracy | Which individual moments produced this summary? |
| Estimated game rating | Am I confusing one game's summary with my established rating? |

## Is Chess.com Game Review accurate when its labels change?

A change is a reason to investigate, rather than proof of a fault. Chess.com's [classification-change help article](https://support.chess.com/en/articles/11845102-why-did-my-move-classification-change-in-game-review), checked October 31, 2026, also notes that different engine strength settings on mobile and web can give different results. Compare the position and settings before comparing screenshots.

Write down the move, the suggested alternative and the opponent's first reply. Then open the analysis board and try the move you actually wanted to play. If you cannot follow the engine line, stop at its first move and ask what changed: did a piece become undefended, did a check become possible, or did a defender move away?

For the terminology, use [inaccuracy vs mistake vs blunder](/answers/inaccuracy-vs-mistake-vs-blunder/). For the numbers and lines, use [how to read Stockfish analysis](/guides/how-to-read-stockfish-analysis/). They answer different parts of the same review.

## A real example: winning did not make my move sound

This is an example from **our own Stockfish analysis**, not a measurement of Chess.com's grading. In nacsol3's March 7, 2024 game against soytueternokarma, White played the bishop capture below ([original game](https://www.chess.com/game/live/103561935791)). The cached analysis used in our reading guide records the evaluation changing from +0.31 to −4.22. White eventually won; the result alone would hide the problem.

> **Check the continuation before deciding that the bishop capture works**
> Position (FEN): `r2qkb1r/2p2pp1/p1n1pn1p/1p1p1b2/Q2P1B2/2P1PN2/PP1NBPPP/R3K2R w KQkq - 0 10`
> Played: Bxb5 — Bishop takes on b5 and pins the knight
> Better: Qd1 — Queen retreats to d1

The bishop capture pins the knight on c6: moving that knight would expose its king. But Black can capture the bishop with the a6 pawn. After White's queen recaptures, Black can defend the knight with the queen. The apparent attack does not win the pinned piece. The quiet queen retreat avoids the sacrifice.

That is the kind of explanation you can test yourself. Replay the capture and defence, then count what each side gave up. You do not need to agree with the second decimal to see the practical issue. The full example and engine verification are in the [Stockfish reading guide](/guides/how-to-read-stockfish-analysis/).

## Accuracy and estimated rating answer other questions

Chess.com's [Game Review help](https://support.chess.com/en/articles/8584089-how-does-game-review-work), checked October 31, 2026, distinguishes Accuracy from your actual rating and describes Game Rating as a single-game estimate. Neither replaces your rated results over many games. Our [estimated-rating explanation](/answers/chess-com-game-review-estimated-rating-meaning/) covers that specific question without turning every disagreement into a claim about the engine.

Use a review to leave with one tested lesson. If the explanation is unclear, try the opponent's reply on the board before opening another report. Comparing two unexplained percentages usually gives you less to practise than understanding one missed capture.

## How Chess Coach helps

Chess Coach reviews finished Chess.com and Lichess games with Stockfish inside Claude or ChatGPT. It shows key moments, the move played and a better move on an interactive board, with follow-up questions and Practice mistakes mode. It does not certify Chess.com's scores or estimate your rating. The free plan includes one in-depth review per day. See [how to connect](/connect/), or follow the [beginner review routine](/guides/how-to-analyze-chess-games-as-a-beginner/).

## FAQ

### Is Chess.com Game Review accurate?

Use it to find and investigate mistakes, while treating its labels and estimated rating as separate summaries. Check a surprising verdict by playing through the suggested continuation.

### Why does Game Review change its mind?

Chess.com says the quick game-over analysis and full review use different analysis, and engine strength settings can differ between devices. A changed label alone does not establish that either review is broken.

### Does a high Accuracy score mean I am underrated?

It does not establish your playing strength. Check your rated results over time and use the review to learn from specific moves.

### Should I compare the same game on two sites?

You can compare the lines, but do not expect identical labels or percentages. First confirm that you are comparing the same position and the same perspective.
